What is the "windfall clause"?

The windfall clause is a commitment by AI firms to donate a significant portion of any large profits made as a consequence of economically transformative breakthroughs in AI capabilities to help ensure that the prosperity created by AI will benefit humanity broadly. The proposal for the windfall clause is outlined in this report.
